Nurse Checking Girl

Home: Welcome

A nurse practitioner or NP is a registered nurse with an advanced degree in nursing. The advanced degree for family nurse practitioners allows NPs to sit for the national board certification exam and to get licensed as an NP to practice in his or her state. NP's practice is regulated by the Montana State Board of Nursing. Family Practices NPs provide care across the lifespan within their scope of practice which is determined by the State Board of Nursing. This includes assessing patients, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, office procedures, and women's health. NPs either have a Master's degree or a Doctorate degree in nursing. The family nurse practitioner preparation and board certification are the same in both degrees with the doctorate doing an additional research project for their degree. All board certified and licensed NPs are qualified to practice to the highest level of their scope of practice and the standards of their board certification.
